Our son turned a year older this past weekend and a party was in order. Well, it’s not like we had a choice. This year he attended a number of birthday parties this weekend, so it was inevitable that we would be asked for a party… right?
First we had the guest list to complete. 20 school friends and 10 friends from outside school and all the respective parents. J was very clear about the theme he wanted, Chase from Paw Patrol. He was very clear about this from the moment he requested for a birthday party of his own.
I seriously believe that was the easy part of the party planning…finding the venue was a different story. Being born during the party season, many of the venues we called initially were booked for the day. Then we hit the biggest luck when we found Barnyard Kids!
Barnyard kids is a family run venue. We found it large enough for everyone to be relaxed and not on top of each other, but yet small enough to cater for all our party needs.
An old tennis court is now the “bike park” so those guests wanting to ride a bike did so without bumping into anyone. A jungle gym for those wanting to climb and slide, a seesaw, swings and a trampoline if that’s what the child wants.
The best part of the venue for us was that the kids would get to interact with farm animals like live chickens, geese, ducks, meet Eeyore the donkey, feed Lizzie and Beauty the cows, the sheep. Then moving over to spend some quality cuddle time with the bunnies and feed them carrot slices. All this is took place under the supervision of John the farms staff. For the parents Barnyard has an undercover area with a kitchen and toilet, table seating for both adults and cute wooden seating for the kids and this area is managed by Esther. Loved that throughout our time there, both John and Esther went out of their way to make sure we were happy and the venue remained clean throughout. Karin the owner has an amazing venue here.
Guest’s done, Venue secured it was time to source a cake…I came across Cake and Bake on FB who are running a special.
You get a cake, 20 Cupcakes and 20 Party buckets for a bargain price of R799!
We shared a photo of what we wanted the cake to look like with Mandy, paid our deposit and were there to collect the day before the party.
Service was amazing, and the cakes tasted super delicious!
Theme was Chase from Paw Patrol, the venue had blue and white balloons, Chase and Skye Balloons. The table spread had different Puppy themed label which I found really cute as did many of the parents going by their comments.
We orders a few platters for the parents, and offered coffee and tea along with some wine and beer for those that felt so inclined.
Oros juice for the kids and a spread of “Pupcorn” and other puppy treats like sweets, chips and ice lollies for the kids. This seemed to have gone down well with the children, not so sure all the sugar was appreciated by the parents though 🙂
I think J became overwhelmed by the party when it came time to sing. He made it very clear he wasn’t impressed.
We were there for the 3 hours allocated which was ample time for the party.
Totally recommend the venue and the cake place if you’re looking for something similar.
Everyone seemed to have had a great time, and J enjoyed that he received the party he so wanted.
Now we’re opening presents slowly as he was very spoilt, one a week or so…
