Children's Bill Act, hylery

South African and travelling with children

Yes, I know it’s been a while since I posted something on my blog.

I’ve been travelling for work the last week and back at the office we’ve had senior management visiting from abroad. A few days of hectic running around presentations and what not.

This week begun with parents that have planned holidays this winter, in South Africa, seeing red! Following the recent elections and cabinet reshuffle, there are a few new faces and ministers with new portfolios. One of these is the minister of Home Affairs. From day one he implemented new regulations, one of these requiring all parents travelling alone or together with their children to have unabridged birth certificates for the child reflecting both their names. If only one parent is travelling then there are other documents that are required to be included.

It’s become a bit of a nightmare really. Initially, it seemed the regulation came into effect with immediate effect on the 26th May 2014, then it was extended to the 1st July 2014 and last night I saw on their official website that it’s now the 30th September 2014. Although we’re grateful for the extension, the question is will these certificates be printed in time? We’ve now been waiting since February 2014 for ours with no clear explanation about why we haven’t received it yet, but, know for “sure” it’s on the system … I could scream.. but I choose not to!

Here is the link to the extension notice. If you’re in the process of applying for a visa such as a work permit or other, this press release from DHA may be of interest to you.
